Thiruvanchikulam Dampathi Pooja – Married Couple Puja At Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple In Kodungallur

Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva temple is located near Kodungallur in Thrissur district, Kerala. The Dampathi Pooja – Married Couple Puja in the temple is very famous. The reason for it is that Umamaheshwara form of Shiva is worshipped in the temple.

The puja is also known as Palliyara Pooja and Dampathi Aikya Puja (Unity Among Couples).

The special puja is usually performed by couples on full moon day or Velutha Vavu day.

Every day after night procession (athazha seeveli) murtis of Shiva and Goddess Parvati are placed on a palanquin. Musical instruments and lamps are placed in front of the divine couple. Then the divine couple is taken to the palliyara (night chamber for sleeping). Special pujas are performed by priests and the divine couple go to sleep.

It is believed that Shiva blessed devotees during this period.

By participating in this puja, unmarried men and women will be blessed with early and desired marriage.

Couples witnessing the puja will have happy, prosperous and long married life with healthy children.

Although the puja is performed daily, it is considered highly auspicious when the puja is performed on full moon day or velutha vavu.

Some devotees perform the puja on 7 full moon days.

The cost of the puja was 225 rupees in the year 2020.
