Karivellur Shiva Temple

Karivellur Shiva temple is located at Peralam village on Payyannur – Nileshwar road in Kannur District, Kerala. The prathishta of Shivling in the temple was performed by Kapila Maharshi. The festival is held annually in Thulam month (October 17 to November 16).

The temple belonged to Chirakkal Kovilakam.

The main festival is the kothu held in Thulam month. The koothu is based on Mathavilasaprahsanam of Pallava king Mahendra Vikraman written in the 7th century AD.

Koothu is also performed in the temple for santhana labdhi – for birth of child in the family.

There are no other festivals in the temple.

The main Upa Devata worshipped in the temple is Sri Krishna and Ganapathy.

Shivratri is another important festival held in the temple.
