Benefits Of Chanting Lalitha Sahasranamam

Lalitha Sahasranamam is the litany of a thousand names of Goddess Lalitha. Here are the benefits of chanting the Lalitha Sahasranama. The epilogue (uttar pithika) in Lalitopakhyana provides a detailed picture of the wide range of benefits that would accrue from the chanting of Sahasranama Stotram. They include:

  • Long life – freedom from untimely death and especially fear of death
  • It is chanted for spiritual enlightenment and self realization.
  • It is chanted to overcome lust, attachment, anger and desire.
  • It blesses a devotee with peace and prosperity.
  • It is also stated that reciting the thousand names of Goddess Lalitha, visualizing Devi as located in the midst of the ocean of nectar, neutralizes all poisons.
  • Bathing with water sanctified by chanting the stotra drives away all evil spirits. Sprinkling the water all around the house keeps out negative forces.
  • Applying sacred ash sanctified by chanting the stotra on the body helps in curing various diseases.
  • It is chanted by some devotees daily for desire fulfillment.

Lalitha Sahasranamam appears in Lalitopakhyana in Brahmanda Purana. It was narrated by Hayagriva avatar of Vishnu to Sage Agastya. Lalitopakhyana contains 320 verses, 183 spell out the thousands names, and the remaining 86 verses outline the wide range of benefits that would accrue to the reciters.
