Ambalapuzha Erattakulangara Sri Mahadeva Temple

Erattakulangara Sri Mahadeva Temple is located 500 meter north of Ambalapuzha junction in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Mahadev Shiva. The deity faces west.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy and Nagaraja.

There were two ponds – front and east side of the temple – in the vicinity of the temple and thus the shrine got the name Erattakulangara. Kulam means pond and eratta means two in Malayalam.

Erattakulangara Rama Warrier, who was the author of Keeratham Attakatha, was killed by a bull in the compound of the temple.

The main festival observed in the temple is Mahashivratri.
