Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha Temple History - Festival

Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is located at Erumely in Kottayam district, Kerala. The 10-day annual festival at Erumeli Dharmasastha temple is observed in such a manner that it ends with Arattu on the Uthiram nakshatra in Kumbham month.

The main murti in the temple is Sastha how holds only an arrow in his hands.

It is believed that the temple was built by Alampally Millakar (millam is a designation) who was an officer of Ranni Karthavu. It is said that Alampally who had once gone to Thiruvambady for participating the festival was insulted. To avenge the insult he decided to construct a shrine. As per the advice of an astrologer, Alampally was able to recover a Sastha Vigraham from the Pampa River. This murti was installed in the newly constructed temple.

The Erumeli petta thullal to Sabarimala passes through Kochambalam which is located 500 meter from Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha temple. This temple was built to fulfill the desire of Puthanveetil Amoomma by her son Peruseeri Pillai.
