Azhinjilam Temple History - Gods Worshipped - Festival – Azhinjilam Thali Mahavishnu Temple

Azhinjilam Temple, located at Azhinjilam near Ramanattukara in Kozhikode district, Kerala, is one among the 18 Thali temples in Kerala. All the other 17 Thali temples are dedicated to Shiva. This temple alone is dedicated to Mahavishnu. Azhinjilam Temple festival is held in such a manner that the festival ends with Arattu on the Thiruvonam nakshatra day in Makaram month. The annual festival is observed for 8 days.

The main deity in the temple faces east. The subsidiary deities worshipped in the temple are Ganapati, Ayyappa and Mother Goddess Shakti.

The temple was destroyed by Tipu Sultan. The temple stood in a dilapidated state for a long period. Through court intervention the property of temple was taken back.

The temple was rebuilt and consecrated on April 2, 1998.

The annual temple festival is noted for pageantry, temple folk arts and traditional dance and music.

The annual Pratishta festival in the temple is held on Makayiram nakshatra in Malayalam Meena Masam.

Ashtami Rohini or Sri Krishna Jayanti is an important festival in the temple and is observed in Malayalam Chingamasam (August - September).
