When to Perform Kurma Puja?

  • Sunday.
  • Purnima Tithi – full moon day.

How to perform Kurma Puja?

  • The puja is to be performed early morning or in the evening.
  • After taking bath, wear red color dress.
  • Offer prayers to Ganesha in the mind.
  • Take a Kalash fill it with water add few drops of milk, put some white til (sesame), roli or chandan, red color flowers and uncooked rice. Cover the mouth of kalash with coconut and mango leaves. Make dot using chandan and kumkum on the kalash.
  • Keep the Kalash on the north side of the house on a red color cloth. The puja is to be performed facing north.
  • Light lamp using red color oil.
  • Light karpur or camphor.
  • Offer red color flowers.
  • Offer white sandalwood paste (chandan).
  • Offer uncooked rice.
  • Offer ithar (fragrance or perfume)
  • Offer sweet made using til (sesame) as Prasad or bhog. After puja, share it with the family members.
  • Chant the mantra ॐ आं ह्रीं क्रों कूर्मासनाय नम: 108 times. Keep count on a white sandalwood mala.
The items in the kalash including water should be deposited under a peepal tree after puja.

  • Offer badam during the puja to Kurma Avatar and then eat them daily in the morning. This will help in solving body related problems. This will help in achieving strength and beauty.
  • Offer urad or black gram during puja and later immerse it in a river. This will help in achieving fame and honor.
  • Offering coconut during puja will help in progress in life. This coconut can later be used for preparing sweet.
