Ever wondered, how did Lakshmana die in the Ramayana? When
Dharma was restored it was time for all avatars in the Ramayana to go back to
the Supreme Source. End of Lakshman is mentioned in the Padma Purana.
One day an old saint came to Sri Ram and asked him for a
private audience. Bhagavan Sri Ram directed Lakshman to guard the door of the
room and said that if anyone entered the room during the conversation he will
be put to death.
The old saint was Kala Deva, or Time, and He appeared to
remind Sri Ram that the objectives of Sri Ram’s appearance on earth were
completed and it was time for him return to Vaikunta.
While this conversation was going on Sage Durvasa, who is
famous for his short temper, appeared outside the room and demanded that he
wanted to have an audience with Sri Ram immediately.
Lakshman tried to explain the situation but Sage Durvasa became angry and threatened to curse Lakshman if he was not allowed inside. Lakshman now was left with two choice – death or curse.

Soon Lakshman realized that this particular situation was
the play of time for Him to disappear from earth. He readily agreed to the play
of Kala (Time). He then walked into the Sarayu River, took the form
of Ananta Sesha, and disappeared.
