Goddess Pitambara Devi is a manifestation of Mother Goddess
Shakti. She is popularly known as Goddess Bagalamukhi. Goddess Pitambara Devi is
one of the Mahavidyas. She is popularly known as Pitambara Maa to her
devotees.
Pitambara Devi turns each thing into its opposite. She turns
speech into silence, knowledge into ignorance, power into impotence, defeat
into victory. She represents the knowledge whereby all desires and things
present in the universe must in time become its opposite. She helps a devotee
to see the failure hidden in success, the death hidden in life, or the joy
hidden in sorrow. Pitambara Devi is the secret presence of the opposite wherein
all animate and inanimate is returned back into the primordial source.
There are several legends associated with Goddess Pitambara
Devi.
A popular legend says that Goddess Shakti took the form of Pitambara
Devi to protect the universe from a huge storm that had the capacity to destroy
the universe.
Pitambara Devi is the eighth Mahavidya among the 10
Mahavidyas.
The goddess is worshipped in the form a powerful yantra.
Goddess Pitambara Devi is worshipped at the Peetambra Peeth
at Datia in Madhya Pradesh.
