If we want to be happy and content in life then we need to
accept imperfection. The desire for perfection in every aspect of life will only
result in anger and frustration.
When we are constantly in search of perfection, we damage
relationships. Family life and professional life becomes filled with unhappiness.
There will be constant fights.
There is only one thing that is perfect and that is within
us - the Supreme Truth or God. Anything that we are searching outside will come
with the tag of imperfection.
There is nothing called a perfect partner, perfect married
life or perfect friendship. Quite often, what makes life worth living is these
little imperfections. We will be bored with a perfect spouse – it will be like
a robot programmed as per our needs.
Instead of focusing on perfection, we need to focus on
contentment.
He who hates no creature, and is friendly and compassionate towards all, who is free from the feelings of ‘I and mine’, even-minded in pain and pleasure, forbearing, ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, and possessed of firm conviction, with mind and intellect fixed on Me – he who is thus devoted to Me, is dear to Me. (Bhagavad Gita, 12.14)Desire for perfection should be replaced with the desire for inner happiness and peace.
Develop love and kindness for all living beings, then we
will learn to ignore the little imperfections.
So instead of paying attention to imperfection around us, we
need to focus on attaining permanent happiness.
