Varun Dev is the Lord of waters in Hinduism and is the king of the oceans. Varuna Dev is worshipped to overcome all kinds of bodily diseases. When to Perform Varun Dev Puja?

  • The puja can be performed any day in the morning.
  • It is meritorious to perform the puja in Jyeshta Month (May – June)

  • It is a good puja and ideal solution to cure various bodily ailments.
  • It is performed for prosperity in life.
  • It is also performed by people who have fear of water or have constant problems in life due to water.
  • It is ideal for desire fulfillment.
  • Those facing sadness in life due to unknown and known reasons will find relief.
  • Good for those family in which a member had died due to drowning.

How to perform Varun Dev Puja?

  • The puja is to be performed early morning.
  • After taking bath, wear red color dress.
  • Offer prayers to Ganesha in the mind.
  • Take a Kalash fill it with water. Put few drops of milk, honey, uncooked rice, jowar, moong (dal) and jaggery. Make a dot using chandan on the kalash.
  • Keep the Kalash on the northeast side of the house on a red color cloth. The puja is to be performed facing northeast.
  • Light lamp using pure cow ghee mixed with sindhoor. One wick is preferred
  • Light karpur or camphor.
  • Offer red color flowers.
  • Offer Sindhoor tilak and wear on forehead
  • Offer uncooked rice.
  • Offer dhoop or agarbati of fragrant flowers
  • Offer sweet made using jaggery as Prasad or bhog. After puja, share it with the family members. A part of the bhog should be put in clean river or pond.
  • Chant the mantra  अपां पतये वरुणाय नमः 108 times. Keep count on a white sandalwood mala.
  • The items in the kalash including water should be deposited under a peepal tree after puja.

Special Offerings

  • During the puja keep a silver coin or pure silver ornament. Catch a bucket of water at night. Put the silver coin or ornament in it. Take bath in the morning using this water. This will help in curing diseases. Practice this for till you find relief.
  • Offer white chandan (sandalwood) during puja, apply it on forehead daily to overcome sadness in life.
  • For desire fulfillment, see one’s image in clean water and later offer the water to Chandra, the moon god.
