Veni Madhav is a highly powerful and rare form of Vishnu worshipped in certain Hindu temples in India. Veni Madhava is known to be the creator, preserved and transformer of universe, combining within him the power of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Veni Madhav is said to reside permanently with his consort Lakshmi in akshaya vata (the evergreen banyan tree) found in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
The deity took up his abode here because Shiva is known to dance the tandava in this area.
Veni Madhav form of Lord Vishnu is four-armed deity holding the conch, discus, mace and lotus in his four arms.
The present temple of Veni Madhav at Prayagraj is more than 500 years old and when Chaitanya Prabhu visited the shrine, he dance for hours in ecstasy in front of the sanctum sanctorum.
The temple attracts scores of devotees daily and their numbers swell into thousands during the annual Magh Mela (January – February) and Kumbh Mela.
All demigods and heavenly beings, saints, leaders of all groups, communities, sects, all the arts and all the various arms of knowledge come to worship Veni Madhava, as He is the embodiment of all of them.
The main deity of Veni Madhav is on the right akshaya vata from where the confluence of the three rivers (Ganga, Saraswati and Yamuna) can be seen. The entire area covered by the banyan tree is from sangam (the center of the confluence) to the place where the six banks of the rivers can be seen.
