The mantra should be chanted on all days except on Sunday. Chanting the mantra sitting in meditation posture under the tree is beneficial.

आयुप्रजां धनं धान्यं सौभाग्यंसर्वसम्पदम्।
देहि देव महावृक्ष त्वामहं शरणं गत:।।
Aayu Prajam Dhanam Dhanyam Soubhagyam Sarvasampadam
Dehi Deva Mahavrikha Twamaham Sharanam Gatah

This mantra is also chanted while performing the puja of the tree.

Importance of Pradakshina of Ashwatha Tree

Ashwatha Tree is believed to be Sri Krishna himself. It is believed that he appeared as the tree. This is the reason why the tree is of great importance in Hinduism.
As per one belief, Brahma resides in the root, Vishnu in the middle and Shiva on the top branches of the tree.
As per Skanda Purana, Vishnu resides in the roots, Keshav on the trunk, Narayan on the branches, Srihari on the leaves and the fruits are the abode of all the gods and goddesses in the Hindu pantheon.
Pradakshina (circumambulation) of the tree daily has numerous health benefits. It improves the oxygen supply in the body.
Pradakshina (circumambulation) helps in purifying the blood in the body.
Barefoot pradakshina of the tree helps in blood circulation. It also helps in curing vein related diseases.
Pradakshina of the tree is performed for a peaceful and happy married life.
It is also done to overcome Shani Dosha.

How to perform Ashwatha Tree Pooja?

You can perform the puja on any day on morning or evening except on Sunday.
Wear white or yellow color dress.
Carry water in a pot. Mix the water with Kesar, Chandan, uncooked rice and yellow color flowers.
Pour the water and the contents under the tree. Keep some water in the vessel.
Light lamp using Sesame oil (Til ka tel) with one wick.
Chant the mantra given above 108 times.
After this do 11 pradakshina of the peepal tree with the vessel containing remaining water.
Carry the water home and sprinkle it in the main entrance and in the rooms in the house. You should also sprinkle it on the family members.
Before leaving the peepal tree, make sure that you have extinguished the lamp.
This puja will help in desire fulfillment.
It will help in overcoming all kinds of Graha dosha including that of Shani.
