Purascharana Vidhi In Hinduism

Purascharana Vidhi is the method of chanting a particular mantra in Hinduism. There are five parts of Purascharana. The simple meaning of Purascharana is the proper method of chanting a mantra with five steps.

The five steps of Purascharana are
  1. Jap
  2. Havan
  3. Tarpan
  4. Marjan (this is a kind of purification for mistakes and sins committed)
  5. Brahman Bhoj
The number of times a mantra is to be chanted depends on the number of syllables in the mantra. Om and Namah are not counted.

This kind of procedure is usually performed under the guidance of a learned priest.
Depending on the region and caste of the performer, Purascharana will change.

This kind of chanting is followed by few communities in Hinduism. Such chanting is largely ignored by majority of Hindus.

Purascharana Vidhi is followed mainly in Hindi heartland in India.
