Pratipada Tithi Vrata – The Vrat observed the day after Purnima and Amavasya

Pratipada Vrata, or Pratipada Tithi Vrat, is observed on the first during the waxing and waning phase of the moon as per traditional Hindu calendar. Pratipada Tithi Vrat is observed very rarely and the Vrata is dedicated to Lord Brahma. 

Pratipada Tithi in Kartik and Chaitra month is considered highly auspicious. Pratipada Tithi Vrat observed in Magh month is known as Dhanya Vrata and is dedicated to Agni.

People who observe Pratipada Vrata fast for the entire day. Gayatri Mantra is chanted on the day.

Another form of Pratipada Vrata observed is known as Shikhi Vrat. A devotee observing this Vrat takes only a single meal on the day. It is believed that one who observes this Vrata will gain material benefits. This Vrat is observed on all the Pratipadas in a year.
