Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Quotes and Teachings

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918 – 2008) is an Indian Guru known for developing the Transcendental Meditation technique. This is a collection of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi quotes and teachings.

Those who meditate, they retire from the outside, they take their awareness from the outside and gradually go deep into the thinking process and eventually go beyond the thought. Transcend thought and then the thinking mind, the conscious mind becomes consciousness. When it goes beyond thought then it transcends thought and becomes consciousness. This consciousness is pure consciousness. The nature of this pure consciousness is bliss – the Absolute. This is called Being.

If we are all strong, stable, we can set our sail with any wind in the world that comes along. If we are not strong, we are like a leaf in the wind. So we meditate, every day, regularly, and gain transcendental being in our everyday life and then we are strong.

Enlightenment means lack of darkness, absence of darkness. And absence of darkness means no mistake, no weakness, no shortcoming – success everywhere, fulfillment of desire everywhere. That is enlightenment. One is living in full accord with Natural Law. Spontaneously Nature is supporting us: then we are not in the dark about anything.

One's own karma, one's own actions are responsible to come to bring either happiness or success or whatever.

Whatever we put our attention on will grow stronger in our life.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.

Don’t fight darkness. Bring the light and darkness will disappear.

Life finds its purpose and fulfilment in the expansion of happiness.

All our comprehension will depend on how settled our awareness can be.

The reality of the universe is one unbounded ocean of consciousness in motion.

Awareness of the omnipresence of being is humility.

Life is one continuous and homogeneous whole from which rise the waves of individual life without breaking the continuity and all-pervading status of eternal absolute Being.

The entire creation is the statement of that cosmic life and all the innumerable laws of nature carrying out the process of creation, evolution, and dissolution, in different parts of the universe, are all the diverse expressions of the one eternal cosmic law.

Wandering isn’t the nature of the mind. The nature of the mind is to settle down in bliss. It is natural for the mind to enjoy more. Only it needs direction to find the right place. Only a matter of turning within.

Just think of any negativity that comes to you as a raindrop falling into the ocean of your bliss.

Never think of failure, for what we think will come about.

The important thing is this to be able, at any moment, to sacrifice what we are for what we could become.

We don’t base our lives on the opinions of others.

Responsibility can never be given. It can only be taken.

No action can be performed successfully without a clear result in view.

If we think of defeat, that is what we will get.

If we are undecided then nothing will happen for us.

We must just pick something great to do, and then do it. Never think of failure at all, for as we think now, that is what we will get.

If a stone is thrown into a pond waves are produced that travel throughout the pond. Every wave produces effects in every part of the pond, resulting in some influence or other. Similarly, the wave of individual life through its activity produces an influence in all the fields of the cosmos.

Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower, and draws all good things toward you.

Go to the absolute ultimate reality, and all levels of relativity will cease to be a burden. Be illumined, and life will ever be in freedom and fullness, away from the darkness of ignorance.

Naturalness is the basis of effectiveness.

Do not pay attention to every leaf in your orchard. Water the root, and enjoy the fruit.

Responsibility can never be given. It can only be taken.

The secret of success is conviction and persistence.

We must take situations as they are. We must only change our mental attitudes towards them.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Teachings on Meditation

The brain of a man is equipped with the ability to experience absolute bliss, absolute happiness, absolute peace, absolute creativity, absolute wisdom. Absolute field of life can be fathomed and experience and lived constantly by man. This is the ability, and this is the merciful nature of the Almighty. The ability is there. The field of the absolute Being is there. It is only necessary to begin to experience it. The only one thing to be done is Transcendental Meditation should be added as part of the daily routine. That is all. And meditation is not that as is understood in the West.

In the West meditation is supposed to be just a superficial thing, superficial in the sense that you take a line or a sentence or a thought and think about it.

Always remaining on the mental thinking level is like trying to explore different avenues of a pond by only swimming on the surface. Fine, there may be found different corners and different avenues on the surface of the pond. Very well, all should be explored, all the unknown should be known.

But remaining all the time on the conscious level, on the surface of life, on the thinking level of the mind, all the avenues of life will not be explored. Much greater depth is there underneath the waters. Diving is necessary. Coming up is necessary.
