When Ganesha Idol (murti) is brought home for Ganesh Chaturthi,it is brought with face covered. This is strictly followed by most
traditional homes. The belief is that the face of Ganesh murti should not be
revealed before the ‘pran prathishta puja’ on Ganesh Chaturthi day.
Pran Prathishta is when the family members invite Ganesh to
reside in the murti. After this Ganesha is no longer an idol but a living form
who is guest in the family. Family members want Ganesha to make the first
glance on them after Pran Prathishta.
There is also another belief that the family members do not
want other people have a look at their Ganesha and fall for the murti.
