Rishabh Dev form of Vishnu is one among the 24 incarnations of Vishnu. Puja and prayer of this form of Vishnu is performed to beget children and for a healthy and strong body. When to Perform Rishabh Dev Puja?

  • On Krishna Paksha Navami – ninth day during the waning or dark phase of moon.
  • When there is Swati Nakshatra in a Hindu month.
  • Highly meritorious to perform the puja when there is a rare combination of Krishna Paksha Navami and Swati Nakshatra.

How to Perform Rishabh Dev Puja?

  • The puja is to be performed in the morning after sunrise.
  • The puja is to be performed in the northeast corner of the house.
  • The murti of Vishnu preferably in Rishaba form should be kept on a green color cloth.
  • Take a kalash fill it with water and put eight green gram (moong) in it. Close the kalash with a coconut. Keep this near the picture of sculpture of Vishnu on the green cloth.
  • Begin the puja by first offering prayers to Ganesha.
  • Light lamp using cow ghee.
  • Dhoop should be of fragrant flowers.
  • Offer chandan as tilak.
  • Offer Tulsi leaves.
  • Offer rock sugar – Kalkanda or mishri
  • The bhog or Prasad for the day should be prepared using til and moong. Usually a khichadi is prepared.
  • Chant the mantra ऋषभाय नमः॥ 108 times.
After puja, the Kalash and its contents should be deposited under a peepal tree.

Special Offerings

For a strong and healthy body offer nuts like pista, badam cashew etc to Rishabh dev and eat it daily.
Offer musambi fruit to Rishabha for begetting children.
Offer yellow or red thread to Rishabh Dev and then tie it on right hand for better relationship with family members, relatives and others.
