Korambe Mahamaya Prabhu Mandir at Korambe in Lohardaga District of Jharkhand


Korambe Mahamaya Prabhu Mandir, also known as Mahaprabhu Vasudev Rai temple, is located around 25 km from Lohardaga town and is an important religious place at Korambe in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand. This is an ancient shrine and is an important sacred place for the people of the region with a history stretching back to the Satya Yuga.

The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. There is beautiful black idol of Sri Krishna as Mahaprabhu Vasudev in the temple.


History of Mahaprabhu Vasudev Rai Temple

The Ashtadhatu murti of Bhagavan Krishna was worshipped here after Ratu Maharaj was told to do so in a dream.

The original temple was a mud structure. It was built by a Nagvanshi ruler of Chet Karna in 1463.

Previously the murti of Bhagavan Vasudev, which is found in the present shrine, was enshrined in the Math Tangra Gulaichi on the banks of Koel River.

The present temple was built in 1969.

The temple is located amidst scenic surroundings.


Unique Murti of Korambe Mahamaya Prabhu 

Unique Murti of Korambe Mahamaya Prabhu is carved out of Neelmani granite. The murti is adorned with a crown. swastik and other designs are created on the murti using natural clay. Ma Lakshminarayan is depicted as sitting in the lap of Mahaprabhu Vasudev Rai.

Left of the main murti are the idols Suryanarayan and Radha Krishna.

Outside the main sanctum sanctorum in the left there is a Shivling, murti of Goddess Parvati, Ganesh, Nandi and Brahma.

To the right of main sanctum there is a murti of Hanuman.

The temple also has beautiful small wooden murtis of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.



All the three domes of the temple have a chakra on top.

Another Shivling with Om Symbol carved on it is kept under a tree outside the main complex.

The temple complex includes a pond and orchard.

He is offered prayers for peace, prosperity, victory over enemies, good health and for good farm produce.

Childless couples offer five Gulaichi flowers to the Lord. The flowers are placed on top of the murti and if the flowers fall down then it suggests fulfillment of their wish at the earliest.

Important Festivals at Korambe Mahamaya Prabhu Mandir

Kartik Purnima - the full moon day in Kartik month (November) is famous a special aarti of 1008 diyas. People from far and wide arrive at the shrine to witness this unique puja and aarti.

Vaishakh Purnima - Manda Mela is observed on the day. People walk over fire pits as part of penance and for desire fulfillment.

Other important festivals are Chaitra Shukla Paksha Navami (Ram Navami), Holi, Rath Yatra and Sri Krishna Janmashtami.

The main bhog or food offered to the deity in the morning is Dal Chaval and Sabji. Local food items like duska, pooa, bara are offered in the evening.
