Nandi is the bull of Shiva. Nandi Puja is performed for attaining peace
and prosperity. Below is the Nandishwar pooja vidhi or procedure along with
mantra. This is a simple guide on how to perform Nandishwara Puja and is ideal
for performing it at home.
When to Perform Nandi Puja?
Ideal day to perform the puja:
- Shukla Paksha Saptami Tithi – seventh day during the light or waxing phase of moon.
- Purvabhadra Nakshtra – when there is Purva Bhadrapada or Poorurttathi nakshatram during the waxing phase of moon in a month.
- It is doubly auspicious to perform the puja when Saptami Tithi and Purvabhadra nakshatra coincides.

Simple Nandishwar pooja Vidhi
- The puja should be performed early morning after sunrise or during pradosh period (1.5 hours before sunset).
- Ideal to perform the puja in a Shiva temple
- The murti (picture, photo or painting) of Nandi should be black or white color. A Shivling or murti of Shiva should be placed facing the Nandi. It should be placed on a white color cloth.
- The puja should be performed facing north.
- The person performing puja should wear white color clothes.
- Lamp should be lit using Til ka Tel (sesame oil)
- White flower should be offered.
- Dhoop should be of chandan.
- Tilak should be of white chandan.
- White color til (sesame) should be offered.
- Cow milk should be offered.
- The bhog or Prasad on the day should of white color like kheer or pal palaysam. It should be shared with friends, relatives and family members.
- The mantra ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे चक्रतुन्दय धीमहि। तन्नो नंदी: प्रचोदयात॥ should be chanted 108 times. The count should be kept on a white chandan mala.
Special Pujas
- To overcome body pain and illness one should see ones’ image in water and then pour that water on Nandi.
- Offer panchamrut in a Shiva temple and later distribute it among people.
- To get job and to achieve professional success chant the mantra ह्रीं श्री नंदीश्वराय नमः॥ 108 times.
