Sankashti Chaturthi Story - Story Read on Sankashti Chaturti Fasting Day

Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat is dedicated to Ganesh Bhagavan. Here is the Sankashti Chaturthi story. The story is read especially by those observing the Sankashti Chaturti fasting which falls on the fourth day after full moon day in a Hindu lunar calendar.

Once, the demigods (Devas) faced several reversals and difficulties. They approached Mahadev Shiva and asked for a solution.

When the Devas reached Kailash, the abode of Shiva, he was playing with his two sons Kartik and Ganesha.

After listening to the problems faced by Devas, Shiva asked his two sons as to who would like to solve the problems of Devas.

Both Kartik and Ganesha told their father that they would solve the problem.

Shiva then decided to test the ability of both of his sons.

He told his sons he who travels around the world and returns first would get the opportunity to help the Devas.

Kartik immediately left to complete the travel around the world.

Ganesha instead of racing with his brother went around his father and mother (Shiva and Goddess Parvati).

For Ganesha, his parents were his entire world. And this is true as per Hindu scriptures – One’s parents are one’s world.

Pleased with Ganesha’s wisdom, Shiva asked him to help the Devas and gave the boon that those who worship Ganesha on Chaturthi (fourth day) after Purnima (full moon day) will have all the problems in their life solved.
