Nobody knows your essence, worship forms which appear as your incarnations. (Vishnu Purana 1. 4. 17)
Just as from an inexhaustible lake thousands of streams flow on all sides so also from Hari, sum of all reality, come forth countless incarnations. The seers, lawgivers, the gods, the human races, the lord of progeny all are parts of him. (Srimad Bhagavata Purana 1.3.26-27).
