Jalakandeswarar Temple in Vellore in
Tamil Nadu is unique for various reasons. One among them is a revolving earthen
lamp. Jalakandeswarar Temple in Vellore is dedicated to Shiva and
Goddess Parvati. But there are also equally important sanctums dedicated to
Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi; Brahma and Saraswati in the temple complex.
The revolving earthen lamp is located
behind the main Nandi murti in the temple. The nandi is known as Adhikara
Nandi.
People make wishes after keeping their hands on the earthen
lamp. Sometimes the earthen lamp revolves. However, sometimes it does not.
However hard the person tries the earthen lamp will not
revolve. The revolving of the lamp does not depend on strength of the person.
Till today no one knows the reason as to why the lamp revolves only sometimes.
