There is an interesting story regarding 12th
century Vaishnava Saint Ramanujacharya and the Puri Jagannath Temple. Ramanujacharya
once visited the famous Puri Jagannath Temple. He was not happy with the pujas,
rituals and worship performed in the temple.
Ramanujacharya complained to king Chodaganga Deva and asked
him to introduce pujas based on Shastras at the Puri Jagannath Temple. He also
objected to the presence of tribal daityas.
The king agreed and requested the Acharya to do the needful.
Acharya then went to sleep in the night thinking about the
changes he would effect.
But when he woke up next morning he found himself at a spot
hundreds of miles away from Puri Jagannath Temple.
Ramanujacharya understood that Jagannath did not want any
changes in the forms of worship at Puri Jagannath Temple.
