Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev in Ujjain – Story of Swarnajaleshwar Form of Shiva – 6th Shiva Temple in Ujjain
Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev is worshiped
in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the 84 forms of Shiva
worshiped in Ujjain. Those offering prayers to Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev

The temple dedicated to Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev is located
at Ram Sidhi (Ramghat) on the Shipra River.

Story of Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev form of Shiva in Ujjain
Agni had a son named Suvarna. But this powerful child became
the reason for conflict between Devas and Asuras. Asuras wanted to have the child.
Devas too wanted him.
Thousands of demigods and demons perished in the battle.
This angered Shiva who cursed Suvarna to lose his luster and
to become like iron.
Agni then approached Shiva and told him that Suvarna was his
son. The semen that fell from Shiva after Kamdev aroused him was carried by
Agni to Ganga and later it was taken care Krittika stars.
The semen resulted in the birth of Kartik or Subrahmanya.

Agni got Suvarna as the result of this incident.
Shiva then asked Suvarana to go to Mahakaal Vana and offer
prayers to a Shivling located south of Karkoteshwar Mahadev.
Suvarna performed penance as told by Shiva. He got back is
luster and human form.
The Shivling to which Suvarna offered prayers came to
be known as Swarnajaleshwar Mahadev.
