Story of Kapaleshwar Mahadev form of Shiva in Ujjain

Shiva was roaming as Kapali when he came across a yajna. Kapli is the form of Shiva after he cut off the fifth head of Brahma. The head was stuck in his hand and he roamed over the earth to get rid of it.

People who were conducting the yajna were not happy with the presence of Kapali. So they attempted to throw him out of the yajna area.

Suddenly people saw thousands of Kapali in the yajna area. People realized that this was caused by Mahadev Shiva.

So they offered prayers to him and asked for forgiveness.

Mahadev asked them to go to Mahkaal Vana in Ujjain and offer prayers to a Shivling. People performed penance and soon the yajna area was cleared.

As Shiva appeared in the form of Kapali, the Shivling came to be known as Kapaleshwar.
