Story of Indradhumneshwar Mahadev form of Shiva in Ujjain
Story of Indradhumneshwar Mahadev begins with King Indradhumneshwar
wishing to attain moksha. He travelled to Himalayas and sought the help of Rishi
Markandeya. The Rishi advised him to go to Mahakaal Vana (present day Ujjain)
and offer prayers.
The king then made a Shivling and offered prayers at
Mahakaal Vana.
Impressed with the piety and devotion of the king, Shiva
appeared before him and granted him moksha. Shiva also told that the Shivling would
be henceforth known by the name of the king.
