Tilak is an essential symbol in Hinduism and it is worn on the
forehead by Hindu devotees. Tilak comes in various different colors. Here are the
importance and significance of different color tilaks.
Black – bestows peace
Red – makes one attractive
Yellow – bestows prosperity
White – moksha or liberation
from cycle of birth and death.
Black chandan or tilak we get from devi temples. Red from
Shakti shrines. Yellow from shrines dedicated to Vishnu and his avatars especially
Lord Krishna. White is the sacred ash from Shiva temples.
