Ravana, the demon king in the Ramayana, was very greedy.
Here is a story which exposes the greedy nature of Ravan.
Once, Goddess Parvati said to Lord Shiva that she wanted to
live in a palace like Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. She complained that she was fed
up with living under a tree.
Shiva told Mother Goddess Parvati that palace was not in their luck and it was better to live under a tree, as it was comfortable.
Shiva told Mother Goddess Parvati that palace was not in their luck and it was better to live under a tree, as it was comfortable.
But Goddess Parvati was adamant.
So Shiva built a palace.
The house warming ceremony (Griha Pravesh) was to be done
and a priest had to be invited.
Shiva decided to call Ravana who was an expert in all
rituals and pujas.
Ravana, an ardent devotee, of Shiva came and performed the
pujas and rituals.
At the end, it was the time to give Dakshina. Lord Shiva
asked Ravana what he wanted as Dakshina (gift).
Ravana immediately asked for the palace.
Without hesitation, Shiva asked him to take it. Thus, Shiva
and Goddess Parvati came under the tree again.
