Tambula is an auspicious item used in Hindu rituals. It is
known as betel leaf or pan. Devotees offer it to Hindu gods and goddesses in
temples, sacred places and in homes.
It symbolizes auspiciousness, prosperity and fertility.
In some regions, Tambula, along with betel nut and a coin
are given to elders and there blessings are taken before auspicious functions
like marriage etc.
In eastern parts of India, Tambula is used to welcome the
groom and bride.
It is also used as a mouth freshener. It also helps in the digestion
of food.
