Chelloor Parakunnathu Bhagavathy Temple Information
The Parakkunathu Temple is dedicated to the Mother Goddess Bhadrakali, who is worshipped according to the Kulachara Tantra Marga. She is worshipped as in the form of Theyyawar Kolagana Bhagavathi. This particular tradition is notable for its principle of non-discrimination in terms of caste or gender. Consequently, any person, regardless of their background, is welcomed to seek and receive the blessings of Bhagavathi. Devotees travel from both near and far, setting aside all distinctions of caste or creed, to find solace and relief from misfortunes at the temple. The Devi treats all who approach her altar as her own children, fulfilling their desires. Offerings (Pujas) are performed following the 'Kowlachara' system.
Mukkola Chathan is also revered as a subordinate deity, considered an attendant of the Goddess. Mookkan Chathan is the guardian of this temple and he got his magical stick and the bull to travel around the universe.

Melam, traditional Kerala temple music with five
instruments, is performed as part of the Vela festival. It attracts thousands of melam
enthusiasts. Caparisoned elephants are another attraction of the
festival.
Vela is the celebration in certain temples in Thrissur and
Palakkad District of Kerala after harvest season. The utsava murti, or Thidambu, of Chelloor Parakunnathu Bhagavathy Temple is taken atop a caparisoned elephant during the evening puja
to the accompaniment of traditional temple music.

Chelloor Parakunnathu Bhagavathy Temple History And Story
Hundreds of years ago, a great sage visited this place. Sensing the presence of Devi, he invoked her through deep prayer, and she appeared before him. The hilltop where the temple now stands was once called Parakkunnu, though the pronunciation has slightly changed over time. It is believed that the word Kunnu in the temple’s name refers to the Meena Chakra. At that time, the region was sparsely populated, and the temple eventually fell into neglect for many years.
Much later, a man from the Paraya community named Adimuthappan—who had gained special spiritual abilities through his service to the Kalladikod Malavara deities—was blessed with a divine vision of the goddess. Following her instruction, Devi was enshrined in Adimuthappan’s Padinhatt (western side). She taught him the rituals and offerings she desired, and blessed him and his lineage with the strength and grace needed to serve her.
However, realizing that Adimuthappan’s Padinhatt lacked the sanctity required for her full presence, Devi appeared in a dream to the Naduvazhi, the ruler of the region. Guided by her vision, the Naduvazhi relocated the deity to the sacred and sublime site at Parakkunnath.
From the time Devi entrusted the rituals to Adimuthappan, members of his lineage from the Paraya community have performed the temple’s pujas and rites. And ever since the Naduvazhi received the goddess’s dream vision and established her at the exalted site, the title of melkoyma has been held by the Kollodi family, a tradition that continues to this day. Adimuthappan and the Malavara deities he served also hold special places of honor and are worshipped in the homes of the temple priests.

ഭഗവതിക്ക് കൗളാചാര സമ്പ്രദായത്തില് ആണ് പൂജാദി കര്മ്മങ്ങള് നടത്തിവരുന്നത്. ഭഗവതിയുടെ ആശ്രിതനായി മൂക്കോല ചാത്തനും ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് സ്ഥാനം കല്പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
