Story of Kantheshwar Mahadev
Legend has it that King Satya Vikram lost his kingdom to
enemies and was living in the forest for a long period. One day he happened to
meet to Sage Vasishta. When the king narrated his sad tale, the Sage asked him
to go to Mahakal Van (present day Ujjain) and meet a holy person who is
meditating there.
The king met the holy person. He tried to divert the king’s
attention by showing and offering him numerous materialistic things. However,
the king was unmoved.
The holy man then asked the king to offer prayers to Kantheshwar
Mahadev. After offering prayers, the king was able to defeat his enemies and
overcome all difficulties. The king ruled his kingdom for several years and
finally attained moksha and got a seat near Shiva.
It is believed that mere sight of Kantheshwar Mahadev (by a
person who follows Dharma) will help in removal of all problems.
