Kadandale Temple in Karnataka – Shree Subrahmanya Temple at Kadandale

Believed to have built during the 9th century AD, Kadandale Temple in Dakshina Kannada District is dedicated to Hindu God Subrahmanya, son of Shiva, popularly known as Muruga or Kartik.
The murti worshipped in the Subrahmanya Temple at Kadandale is 3 feet in height. It is believed that during Tretayuga, Vali, the Vanara king of kishkindha, mentioned in the Ramayana had worshipped the murti.



A popular history regarding the construction of the temple has it that a Jaina King of the region had a dream about the murti hidden in a pond which was filled waste. It was Balasubrahmany who came in the dream and told the king about the murti.

When the pond was cleared the murti was found and it was installed in the present day temple.
The most important rituals and festivals in the temple are Naga Panchami, Simha Sankramana, Tene Habba, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ashlesha Bali Seva, Chandika Homa, Upakarma, Deepavali, Sashti Jathra, Skanda Parichaya, Champa Sashti, Kere Deepthsava, Bhotha Bali, Avabhrutha, Samprokshane Manthrakshathe, Kiru Sashti and Hatthanavadhi.
