Apasavya – Shifting of Sacred thread from left to right shoulder

Janeu, the sacred thread worn by Hindus, is shifted from left to right shoulder during Shradh ceremony and this is known as Apasavya.

Janeu is known as Yagnopavitam. It is known as Poonol in Malayalam, Jandhyamu in Telugu, Janivaara in Kannada. It is also known as Bratabandha, Janivaara, Jandhyam, Poita, Lagun, Yagyopavit, Yonya and Zunnar.

Apasavya means from the left.
