Goddess Harsiddhi – About Harsiddhi Mata

Goddess Harsiddhi is a manifestation of Mother Goddess Shakti. She is identified with Goddess Annapurna. The most famous temple dedicated to Harsiddhi Mata is located in Ujjain.

The story associated with Goddess Harsiddhi begins with Shiva roaming around the universe with the body of Goddess Sati, who self immolated at the yajna of Daksha. To keep the balance of the universe and to bring back Shiva into worldly life, the body of Sati was cut into several pieces. Goddess Harsiddhi temple is located where the elbow of Goddess Sati fell.

Harsiddhi also means one who vanquishes all Adharma. Legend has it that once two demons named, Chand and Prachand, tried to attack Kailash. On Shiva’s command Goddess Chandi destroyed the two demons. A happy Shiva then called her Harsiddhi.
