Yama Temple at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar District in Telangana – Rare Temple Dedicated to Hindu God of Death

Yama Dharmaraja is the Hindu God of Death and temples dedicated to Lord Yama are very rare. On such temple is the Sri Laxminarasimha Swamy Devasthanam at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar District in Telangana.



Yama Dharmaraja is worshipped as a subsidiary deity at the famous Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple. The main murti in the temple is the Lakshminarasimha Swami incarnation of Bhagvan Vishnu.

Devotees offer prayers here after taking a holy dip in the Godavari River.

There is a belief that those offering prayers here will not suffer in hell.

The most important puja offered in the temple is the Ayoosha sooktham for long life and good health.

Another important ritual held here is the Ganda Deepam – devotees pour oil into the lamp to mitigate sufferings.

The temple is located around 90 km north of Karimnagar.
