It was King Bhagiratha’s
austerities and desire to free the souls of his ancestors that brought Holy
River Ganga from heaven to earth.
The Jayanti is based on
calendars followed in Maharashtra .
The famous Ganga Sagar
Mela observed in Bengal on the same day is associated with King
Bhagiratha.
