Yatus In Hinduism – Yatudhanas

Yatus or Yatudhanas in Hinduism are evil spirits having supernatural powers. They can take any form and are mentioned in the Puranas and Mahabharata. They did have an independent existence but were later clubbed with demons and Rakshasas. They usually dwell in forests and lonely places.

As per Vayu Purana there are twelve Yatus. Their parents are Sage Kashyapa and his wife Surasi.

In the Mahabharata it is mentioned that Yatudhanas attack sages and disturb their yajnas. They also take away materials collected for sacrifices and domestic animals.
