Sant Rohidas was an ardent devotee of Lord Vitthal and his
Punyatithi or death anniversary is annually observed in Margashirsh month. Sant
Rohidas Punyatithi 2025 date is November 27.
Sant Rohidas was a cobbler (charmakar) by profession. He
used to constantly meditate on Lord Vitthal, a manifestation of Bhagwan Sri
Krishna. He used to chant bhajans dedicated to the deity.
Legend has it that once Bhagwan Vitthal appeared before Sant
Rohidas to help in making 1000 shoes. He had to prepare 1000 shoes on a short
notice from the king of the region. He had looked all around for help but got
none.
It is said that Vitthal then appeared as a young boy and
asked Sant Rohidas to keep singing bhajans while he made the shoes.
Sant Rohidas was surprised to see the speed of the young
boy. He continued singing bhajans and all shoes were prepared in one night.
Next morning the young boy told that he will return after
taking bath.
Sant Rohidas took the shoes to the king who was pleased with
the work. He was rewarded well. But when Sant Rohidas returned he could not
find the boy.
He soon realized that the boy who came to help him was
Vitthal.
Sant Rohidas Punyatithi is observed annually on Margashirsha
Shukla Paksha Saptami Tithi or the seventh day during the waxing phase of moon
in Margashirsh month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in Maharashtra .
