Satarupa in Hindu Puranas is the female equivalent of Manu –
the first man. As per some Puranas she was the mind born daughter of Brahma,
the Hindu god of creation. Agni Purana, Padma Purana, Vishnu Purana and Srimad
Bhagavd Purana state that the male half of Brahma is Manu and the female half
of Brahma is Satarupa.
Some texts are of the view that Satarupa means one hundred
forms which includes mainly female forms.
In many texts Satarupa is the wife of Swayambhu Manu.
In some, Manu and Satarupa are the male and female part of
Brahma. Daughters are begotten then and they are married to Rishis who then
populate the earth.
