Vijaya Saptami Vrat is observed when Shukla Paksha Saptami
or seventh day during the waxing phase of moon falls on Sunday. The vrat is
dedicated to Surya, the sun god. Performing holy bath in rivers and performing
donation and other philanthropic activities on the day helps in removal of all
sins.
Prayers are offered in the morning and evening to Surya.
Gayatri Mantra is chanted in the morning and other Surya mantras are chanted in
the evening.
A fast is observed on the day from sunrise to sunset.
It is also a good day to offer prayers to deceased ancestors
and relatives. The day is also apt for performing Shradh for ancestors.
