Anantarya Vrat Dedicated to Uma Form of Goddess Parvati

Anantarya Vrat is dedicated to the Uma form of Goddess Parvati. It begins in the Margashirsha month in Hindu lunar calendar. The vrat is performed for the welfare of children and peace in family. Anantarya Vrat in 2024 begins on December 4.

The vrat is performed on all Tritiya or third day of a fortnight in Hindu calendar.

The vrat can be performed by both men and women.

The devotee performing the vrat should opt for a vegetarian food on the previous day of the vrat.

On the day of the vrat after early morning bath, prayers are performed to Goddess Uma. You can read Lalita Sahasranama.

Food without salt is eaten on the day. Food made using oil is also avoided on the day.

The vrat should be performed for a year on both the fortnights.

To perform Annadanam or food donation to poor children on the day of the vrat is highly meritorious.

Anantarya Vrat begins on Margashirsha Shukla Paksha Tritiya – third day during the waxing phase of moon in Margashirsh month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar in North India and is observed for a year.
