Chinnamastika Mela begins on the Shukla Paksha Pratipada of
Shravan month – the first day of the waxing phase of moon as per traditional
Hindu calendar followed in North India . In 2025,
Chinnamastika Mela begins on July 25. The mela attracts thousands of people.
The mela is famous trading of traditional goods on the
mountain region.
It is widely believed that Pandit Mai Dass, an ardent
devotee of Goddess Shakti, was given darshan in the vicinity of the present day
temple in a dream by Chinnamastika Devi. She asked him to find Her Pindi which
was located nearby and she also provided information about a pond.
The present day temple is located at the spot where Pandit
Mai Dass discovered the Pindi.
