Saubhagya Karana Vrata, dedicated to Goddess Parvati in her
manifestation as Goddess Gauri, is observed with reverence and devotion,
particularly on the third day of the waxing phase of the moon in the Vaishakh,
Bhadrapada, and Magh months. This sacred observance is undertaken by
individuals seeking the blessing of a good spouse. In 2025, the dates are on
April 30 and August 26. The Vrat on Magh Month is on February 1, 2025.
The procedure for observing the Saubhagya Karana Vrata is as
follows:
Fast from Sunrise to Sunrise: Devotees abstain from
consuming any food or drink from sunrise on the chosen day until the following
sunrise. This fasting period symbolizes dedication and discipline in seeking
the divine blessings of Goddess Gauri.
Avoidance of Salt: During the fasting period, individuals
completely refrain from consuming salt. This omission is a sign of purity and
commitment to the vrata.
Worship of Goddess Gauri: A picture or idol of Goddess
Gauri, depicted sitting on a bull, is ceremoniously worshipped on this
auspicious day. Devotees offer their prayers and supplications to the divine
mother, seeking her grace and blessings for marital happiness and prosperity.
Offerings of White Flowers, Fragrance, and Chandan: Devotees
adorn the idol or picture of Goddess Gauri with offerings of white flowers,
aromatic substances, and sandalwood paste (Chandan). These offerings symbolize
purity, devotion, and auspiciousness, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the
worship.
Completion of Vrata: The observance of the vrata is
considered complete when the person performing it engages in acts of charity
and compassion. As a concluding ritual, devotees offer food and provisions to
poor children or elderly individuals who are in need. This act of charity
reflects the spirit of generosity and selflessness, reinforcing the
significance of sharing blessings and abundance with others in the community.
By diligently observing the Saubhagya Karana Vrata and
following the prescribed rituals with sincerity and devotion, devotees seek the
divine intervention of Goddess Gauri to bless them with marital harmony,
companionship, and auspiciousness in their lives.
