Gauri Tritiya Vrat is dedicated to Goddess Gauri and is observed on the third day of the waxing phase of moon or Shukla Paksha Tritiya Tithi. It can be observed on all the shukla paksha Tritiya tithi in a Hindu month. Nowadays it is most popularly observed on the third day during the waxing phase of moon in Chaitra month. The fast is from sunrise to next day morning sunrise.
Goddess Gauri murti or picture should be worshipped with water, flowers and fruits. Sweet made from milk or honey is also offered as part of the puja. Red color flowers or lotus flower is offered as part of the puja.
Doing food donation to poor people and distributing clothes are considered highly meritorious.
Those observing fast can eat fruits. Salt is to be completely avoided.
