The widespread belief is that she protects devotees from
contagious diseases like Small Pox, Chicken Pox etc. As Mother she protects her
children from all sorts of natural calamities.
Angapradhashanam is an important ritual in the temple. A
devotee rolls round the Temple
Parikrama in the ritual.
For curing eye related problems, people offer Kannikkais.
Dolls, human parts made in metals are offered in the temple.
By way of submitting kannikkais such as doll having the
appearance of human being, the Kannadakkam, which is made up of a Gold, Silver
or metal plate bearing the impression of eye of human being, for the curing
their eye problem, by the Goddess.
The murti worshipped in the temple is unique it faces
northeast. Mother is not stamping on the head of a demon. She is shown keeping
her feet on lotus.
Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navrathri (nine nights), Deepavali,
Krithigai, Thai Pongal, Shivarathri, Chithirai 1 and Aadi Masam are observed in
the temple.
