Badrinath Altitude

Badrinath Altitude usually does not create altitude sickness for most people. But the Badrinath temple is located at an altitude of 3133 m or 10278 feet above sea level and it is prone to altitude sickness. Altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness occurs above 2, 400 meter or 8000 feet. Those with history of altitude sickness or first time travelers to mountainous regions should take the advice of a doctor.


Badrinath Temple is surrounded by two mountains – Nar and Narayan. Bhagavan Sri Hari Vishnu is worshipped here in the meditating posture.

The temple is located on the banks of Alaknanda River and is visited from May to November. The temple remains closed during the winter season - November to April.

Badrinath Temple is part of the Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
