Chitrapura Temple Mangalore– Chitrapura Durgaparameshwari Temple near Mangalore in Karnataka

Chitrapura Durgaparameshwari Temple is a very rare temple in which Mother Goddess is worshipped as Linga. It is believed that Goddess Durga appeared here in the form of Jaladurga. The temple is located near Mangalore in Karnataka.


Story of Chitrapura Temple

Legend has it that Durga Devi appeared as Jaladurga to kill demons Chitrasura and Vichitrasura. They demons were followers of Darigasura and they wanted to take revenge on Mother Goddess for killing their master.

Wives of a Gandharva were kidnapped by Chitrasura and Vichitrasura. The Gandharva prays to Vishnu who then deputes Jaladurga to kill the demons. The place where the demons were annihilated came to be known as Chitrapura or Vichitrapura.

Goddess is worshiped here in the form of Udbhavalinga. Mother Goddess Kali is also worshipped in the temple.

Location
Chitrapura Bus Station situated on Mangalore - Udupi national highway (NH 17) is at a walk able distance from the temple.

Chithrapura Durgaparameshwari temple is located around 12 km from Hampanakatta, Mangalore. Surathkal is about 7 Km away.
