Mudiya Purnima – Muria Puno Mela – Govardhan Parikrama in Vrindavan – Mathura

Mudiya Purnima, popularly known as Muria Puno Mela, is observed at Govardhan in Vrindavan – Mathura on Guru Purnima day. Mudiya Purnima 2024 date is July 21. It is also known as Mudiya Puno and Mudiya Purnima, This is a 5-day fair (mela) and festival and begins on Ashada Navami day (July 15). More than five million people participate in the holy events during period.

The main ritual includes Parikrama of Giriraj - Govardhan (walking around the mountain). Bathing in Manasa Ganga and visiting temple and holy spots including Mukharvind and Danghati are part of the annual ritual.


Srila Sanatan Goswami the most important Goswami of Vrindavan. He is believed to have disappeared from earth on Guru Purnima day.

Muriya Purnima Parikrama was started by Sanatan Goswami.

Sanatan Goswami Tiro Bhav Divas in Vrindavan – Death Anniversary of Sanatana Goswami

Sanatan Goswami (1488 AD -1558 AD) was one of the important disciples of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was also one of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan. The day is observed as Mudiya or Muriya Purnima.

Sanatana Goswami’s life changed after his meeting with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

He wrote numerous books on the Bhakti tradition based on the Krishna cult.

He performed numerous spiritual and philanthropic works in Vrindavan. 

He wrote four books which are cornerstone in Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

Sanatana Goswami attained moksha and merged with the Supreme Being on Ashada Purnima day. His death anniversary coincides with the Mudiya Purnima.

Mudiya refers to the shaving of heads that the Vaishnavas performed in mourning after the passing away of Sanatan Goswami.
