Gau Ghat in Haridwar

Gau Ghat – Haridwar – is an important bathing spot in Ganga River in Haridwar. It is located south of Brahma Kund or Hari ki Paudi. It is believed that those taking bath here will get redemption from sin associated with the killing of a cow.

Gau Hatya is one of the greatest sins in Hinduism. ‘Go’ or cow is considered to be mother. She also symbolically represents mother earth and is believed to nourish all living beings. Those people who accidentally killed a cow visit Gau Ghat and perform holy dip.
